Laurel Thomsen practices in the area of foreclosure defense and loan modifications.

Prior to joining Newland & Newland, LLP, Laurel was an attorney at one of the largest foreclosure firms in the Chicago area where she represented lenders focusing on residential foreclosure and eviction cases. Laurel's many prior years of representing lenders in foreclosure cases have prepared her well for representing homeowners in claims against their lenders. Her experience includes representation of creditors in foreclosure litigation and mediations, as well as divorce and building court cases. She also clerked with the City of Chicago's Collections, Ownership and Administrative Litigation Division where she did real estate title research and litigated building code enforcement and demolition liens.

Laurel received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame where she studied French language and literature. She received her juris doctorate from Loyola University Chicago's School of Law. During her time there, she clerked for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, and was a founding member of the school's alternative dispute resolution society.

Laurel currently volunteers in immigration with Erie House Chicago as part of the New Americans Initiative.
